I am Debbie Luna, LMSW, Campus Social Worker of Por Vida
Academy Charter
High School. I am a wife and mother of 2 children, a girl
and boy. I am a graduate of Our Lady of
the Lake University with a Bachelor's in
Education with a specialization in Spanish and a Master's in Social Work. I have worked in the education field for
approximately 15 years to date as a Teacher, a Vice Principal and back as a
Social Worker. This is my 5th
year at Por Vida Academy
and I currently am the Social Worker, director of all social services for my
students and their families. I organize,
facilitate, conduct individual and group counseling, conduct crisis intervention,
provide case management services, referrals to other agencies, coordinate other
agencies to provide services directly to our students, director of pregnancy
and related services to our pregnant and/or parenting students, member of the
Bexar County Student Age Parenting Committee, Our Lady of the Lake Field
Supervisor, member of the Mission Road Collaborative with Blessed Sacrament
Child Development Center, Parents Academy, Jewish Family Services and Blesses
Sacrament Convent, Staff Liaison and Student Advocate. My philosophy in education is "It takes a
village to raise a child", and Por Vida is a grand village helping raise
children.
